Looking for Mr. Darcy

Facebook remains one of my guilty pleasures despite all of its highly annoying applications. The other day, however, I noticed the “What Jane Austen Heroine Are You”. Admittedly, my love for Jane Austen developed in the late 90s. I was a senior in college and was spending a highly rare Saturday evening at home. In a silly attempt to add some culture into my life, I started watching the BBC presentation of “Pride and Prejudice” on local PBS.

Six hours later and hopelessly enamoured with Colin Firth, my love for Jane Austen had been born. While Colin was delicious icing on the cake, I was truly won over by the clever writing (the BBC script is nearly verbatim from the novel).

Anyway, upon discovery, I promptly took the test. It was pretty obvious what questions were going to result in Elizabeth Bennett but I decided to answer each question as truthfully as I could (the questions, afterall, are pretty lame).

Sadly, all my day dreaming has coined me Fanny Price.

You are smart and shy, a quiet beauty with brains that intimidate everyone around you. You often feel out of place, homeless and alone. As an intellectual idealist, you long to be heard and understood, but rarely waste your time trying to defend yourself to those who could not possibly understand. Time and experience is making you bolder. Despite your clever genius, you long for simplicity, and the love of your soul mate, who is a socially surprising and unlikely match.

Wow! This explains so much.

ETA: I’ve since read most of Austen’s novels. Not that I’m all that highbrow. I’ll often take a movie over a book. But I felt the need to add this nonetheless!
